+ About Daisy Kings
Traci of Daisy Kings and I connected with me through a local networking group, and I was thrilled to discover her line of handcrafted tallow products. She creates her product line using regenerative farming practices with grass-fed ingredients, all made in her home in Central Illinois. I can’t wait to show you the behind-the-scenes of her Tallow product shoot.
Her brand truly spoke to my farmhouse loving, self-sustaining, homesteading heart.
Tallow was something brand new to me, however, as someone who has struggled greatly with their skin, I am always excited to hear about products that nurture and heal. Traci has some incredible resources on her Instagram and website that can help guide you in the right direction and also give you more information on “why Tallow?”.
Now let’s dive into the photos!

+ Playing With Light
I couldn’t bear being cooped up in the house for a moment longer, and despite the chilly March temperatures, the sun gave me so much warmth and much-needed rejuvenation. So, with that in mind, I packed up the products and began the session on our front porch.
Thank goodness for portable backdrops!!
Product photography has always been where my heart lies. I love branding photography for the connection piece, however, there is something so creatively fulfilling and almost nurturing for me in creating these sets and product photos. I hope to continue growing in this space, serving more brands, and producing beautiful photos that make people say, “I’d love to have that”.
If you want to see a little behind the scenes and also the props that I chose for this shoot, I’ve linked the Instagram posts for you here.

+ Soft, Organic, Clean
When creating the set designs for this mini-session, I wanted to keep things very clean, with soft textures, and earthy tones. Think creams, browns, and greens. She also had lavender as one of the primary fragrance notes, so I wanted to make sure I had a nod to that as well.
I shot Daisy King’s tallow product shoot at my 1889 farmhouse, which provided the perfect backdrop for the vintage-inspired shots I wanted to include in this gallery.
The goal was to create a variety of images for each product that showcased its fragrance notes, textures, and functionality. I didn’t have a model for this session, however, it would have been incredible to get some photos that showed movement or the products in use, such as in a bathroom with a beautiful bathtub, or on the go in a purse or diaper bag. An idea for next time!
+ How Product-Based Brands Can Strategically Use Their Product Photos
#1: Make the most of your gallery. Before the session begins, we create a strategic shot list based on your goals and current marketing strategy. This allows us to create a gallery of images that have purpose and make it easy to incorporate them into every aspect of your marketing plan. Not only can you use flat lay product photos on your website, but you can also use them in email newsletters, flyers, event signage, social media posts, profile photos, blog posts, and more. The possibilities are endless!
#2: Make an impact. Your product photos work hard for you to build trust with your audience. They instantly let you customers know that you are on top of things, you are organized, and that your products are as beautiful as they are effective.
#3: Consumers shop with their eyes first. Before they know the details of a product, the benefits, or the feel, they will first find what looks most appealing. You could have the most incredible product in the world, but if the appearance doesn’t match their expectations, it may never get in the hands of your dream customers.
